We are currently learning about hazards and how to stay safe. A key idea we have come to as a class is that we need to be prepared for potential hazards by knowing what to do.
We analysed 2 songs about crossing the road, one by the wiggles and one by the funky monkeys. We completed a PMI chart to find the Positive aspects, Minus aspects, and things we'd improve.
We then used this information and created our own crossing the road songs based on the following criteria:
- It has to include 3-4 messages about how to cross the road safely.
- The tune should be based off a nursery rhyme or other basic tune.
- Where possible the song should rhyme.
To make things interesting we're running another poll to see who you think wrote the best song using the criteria.
So please click on the Road Safety Song Page at the top of the blog, check them all out and vote using our poll on the side bar under the calendar.

We've been discussing Hazards in Room 1 lately. An interesting comment was made by one of our students that "Everything is a hazard". We then discussed at length whether this statement is true or not, for example is a window a hazard? "yes because it may smash and cut you."
So Mr Baylis asked Room 1 that if everything is a hazard then he should be wearing a safety helmet all of the time, safety glasses, thick leather clothing and steel capped boots. This was met with a chorus of "don't be silly" "you can't live like that" etc.
So Room 1 came to the conclusion that yes there are potential hazards everywhere, but the key thing is to be prepared if one arises. By being prepared we mean knowing what to do to manage that situation.
We've taken this idea of being prepared and analysed 2 road safety songs - one by the wiggles, one by the funky monkeys. We then completed a PMI chart about the message the songs were providing. The final aspect to our task is to take our analysis and create our own road safety song.
We'll continue working hard on them and if possible will post them on here for you to enjoy.

Hazards and Safety
Our unit this term is about Hazards and Safety.
Following Professor Krasnic's advice, we decided to define the terms 'hazard' and 'safety' and write examples of hazards and safety into our books.
We then collected our ideas and created a class mind map.
Enjoy
