Here in Room 1 we pride ourselves on being a team and developing ourselves as learners. As a part of this we do a bit of team/building activities based around the key competencies.

Our challenge this week is to have a lip sync competition. We have put ourselves into groups, chosen our songs and are already practising like mad!! The criteria is:

- You need to mouth the lyrics of the song in the right place.
- Every group member performs together.
- You need entertaining dance moves that are suitable for the music.
- Keep in time with your group.

Mr Baylis will record our performances and put them on here. He will then try to create a poll and we would like you to assess and vote on the best performance.

Today Mason brought some piglets in to show the class. Here he is to tell you about it.

I took some piglets to school one pink and one spotty one and they were very loud. They were KuneKune pigs and they were very little and I did not bring all of them . When they're scared their tails uncurl and when they have a feed there tails curl up . From Mason.

Here are some photos.

Weekly Rag - Our thoughts from the classroom.

Through out our week we had been learning about synonyms and antonyms in spelling we learned that antonyms are the opposite and synonyms are words that are slightly the same.We have been talking about the Christchurch earthquake. At lunch some boys played touch ball rush and Mr Baylis played a little bit to give us a challenge. At draft writing we are describing a fish. At swimming we are learning about strokes like backstroke and breaststroke and we are learning about style like freestyle.

Meet the teacher interviews

A reminder to all that parent interviews are on this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Would love to see you so if you haven't done so already please contact school and we'll make a time to meet.

Decsriptive Writing

We have been learning about descriptive writing. An important technique we have been discussing is to 'Show don't tell' - using words to create a picture in the audiences mind.

Here is the picture we are using.

And this is the start of our class brainstorm. We decided to post it on here so you can help us by contributing ideas as well.

Here are some of our descriptions. We hope you enjoy.

Storybird

Mr Baylis was having a look around last weekend and found a really interesting website. It's called Storybird and it works by creating a story back to front. You choose the artwork first then create your story from the artwork.

Please keep checking the storybird tab at the top of the blog as we create new and interesting storybirds for you to read.

Weekly Rag - Thoughts from the classroom

We truly like our teacher Mr Baylis. He teaches us maths, reading, theme and heaps of drama. Our favourite subject of all time is P.E.(physical education) We have some tricky team building activities like caring a buddy right round the class with two other class mates. We also do activities like brain gym pack up ( boys have to dance with girls and girls have to dance with boys waltzing). We really like this class because it is fun and Mr Baylis plays his guitar while we sing and what we think is best is that we are at TURUTURU SCHOOL. And remember ROOM 1 IS THE BEST!!!!!

by Paige Church! and Nicholas Westraad!
and give big clap to Mr Baylis the greatest teacher in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!
