Our Poll Results
Our poll has now closed with 14 votes and with 64% saying no parents should not be able to call their children whatever they want to.
This has generated great discussion within the class with these key points being raised,
- There's a difference between being creative and being silly.
- Parents need to realise that the child has to grow up with that name.
- If someone doesn't like their name they can just go and change it.
- A name shouldn't matter as long as there are people to support that person.
Thankyou to those who voted.
Have a great weekend.

Key Competencies
http://www.GlitterMaker.com/ - Glitter Graphics - Facebook Layouts - Facebook Banners
Today we integrated the Key Competencies Managing Self, Relating To Others, and Using Language Symbols and Texts.
Mr Baylis gave us a copy of the Hieroglyphic alphabet with some letters missing. In pairs we had to create a picture for the missing letters, and create a message for our pair to interpret.
Check it out below and create your own Hieroglyphic message for a partner to solve.

Key Competencies - Managing Self/Relating To Others
The next step in our study on Managing Self and Relating to Others is to understand how these concepts work together and interrelate.
Mr Baylis set a task down for the class. In groups of 8 we had to get from one side of the classroom to the other without touching the floor and only using 3 chairs. It was a challenging task, and in the end Mr Baylis had to help us a little bit by giving us an extra chair per group. Check out how we went.
We then reflected on the task and generated some ideas from 3 headings we were given. Here they are.
What was easy?
- holding on to boys and girls and chairs
- it was easy when we held on to each other.
What was hard?
- getting everyone on the chairs
- when we had less chairs
- moving the chairs and having 3 people on one chair
- getting the chairs to the other side
- holding on to each other
- staying on the chairs with three other people
What would you change next time?
- have stools instead of chairs
- the amount of people in a team.
- that you're allowed to go back for other people
- holding on, not touching the floor, and throwing the chair forward

Multiplication Grand Prix
Here is a fun multiplication game for you to try.
Create a player, and challenge other people around the world to win the race.
It's a good fun way to learn your multiplication facts.
Mr Baylis is currently undefeated, click on the picture below and see how you will go :-)

Hazards and Safety
Our unit this term is about Hazards and Safety.
Following Professor Krasnic's advice, we decided to define the terms 'hazard' and 'safety' and write examples of hazards and safety into our books.
We then collected our ideas and created a class mind map.
Enjoy

Managing Self - Thinking deeper about things
Today we revisited our discussions on the Key Competency Managing Self. The different thing is, we did as Toni Krasnic suggested and looked at it a different way. We took one aspect, thinking deeply about things and used this as our focus. We discussed what thinking deeply means and looks like, then tested our thinking skills with some problems. We have put them below for you to test your thinking.
Give them a try and Good Luck!!
1. Jake was standing on one side of the river, and his dog Scruffy was standing on the other side. "Come on Scruffy, come, boy!" shouted Jake. Scruffy crossed the river, ran to Jake, and got a treat for being a good dog. The amazing thing was that Scruffy didn't even get wet! How did Scruffy do that?
2. Each letter below stands for the name of something. What should the last three letters be?
M V E M J S ? ? ?
3. The three little pigs, as you know, built houses — one of straw, one of sticks, and one of bricks. By reading the six clues, figure out which pig built each house, the size of each house, and the town in which each house was located. Use a chart to keep track of your information and your logic.
TOWN | SIZE | MATERIAL | |
Patricia Pig | |||
Penny Pig | |||
Peter Pig |
- Penny Pig did not build a brick house.
- The straw house was not medium sized.
- Peter's house was made of sticks, and it was neither medium nor small.
- Patricia Pig built her house in Pleasantville.
- The house in Hillsdale was large.
- One house was in a town called Riverview.
4. An apartment building has two floors, with three apartments on each floor. The Grays live in the top middle apartment. The Blues live directly above the Browns. If the Greens live on the top floor, then they live next door to the Blues. The Whites live to the left of the Greens, either on the top or bottom floor. The Blacks live on the top floor. Which family lives in which apartment?
5. You are in a cabin and it is pitch black. You have one match on you. Which do you light first, the newspaper, the lamp, the candle or the fire?
6. Which word, if pronounced right, is wrong, but if pronounced wrong is right?
7. We live in a large tower block, 10 floors high. My 5 year old son goes to school each day using the lift from the 10th floor to the ground floor. However, when he returns in the evening, he uses the lift to get to the 5th floor and then uses the stairs for the remaining 5 floors. Why?
